The Fascination Begins

All of us come from different routes that converge into one at beauty school. It doesn’t matter where you come from but rather where you are now and what you’re doing with your time. The cosmetology program at the Cinta Aveda Institute has students from every walk of life, age and cultural background under one roof united by their obsession with hair. At Cinta Aveda, you have the opportunity to live in the lively city of San Francisco where you can find different tastes in style–from square to edgey.
When you start, you are investing your time (1600 hours) and money (more or less $25,000) into the cosmetology program. This is because somehow at some point in your life, you’ve became interested in doing hair. It really doesn’t matter whether you liked torturing your baby sister by holding her down to cut her hair (sounds dangerous) or experimented on your own tresses by bleaching the hell out of them and then dying it green only then to watch it slowly fall off your scalp. After you have mastered the baby steps such as holding a blowdryer correctly (yes it feels awkward at first) and finding the courage to snip off more than an inch with your new “shears” (not scissors) from your beloved dollhead which seems to become an extension of your own fashion sense (mine has black nail polish lips and funky do’s on the regular), then you’re ready to take on the human race. WHile it all sounds short and sweet, boy is that not true.
I am currently 1100 hours in. At first it went by slowly. Because of my short attention span, I found the theoretical part needed my extra attention. When it comes to safety of the client and hygiene standadrds, one needs to uphold and can’t afford to let a short attention span get in the way! Surprisingly, I found the material quite interesting, and soon my short attention span syndrome went away. Once you start taking clients a whole new world opens up to you, and it’s then that you realize that you are meant to do hair. Otherwise, you might know at that moment that beauty school is just not your thing. Here are a few images I took of the cuts and color I have done.
