Toners seem to be underrated and I’ve noticed that a lot of my clients either don’t use them or understand very little about the benefits of incorporating a toner in their beauty routine. Some people think that creams are enough, but that isn’t always the case. Here are some facts about toners and the reasons why they are so important.
One of the worst things you can do to your skin is upset the PH balance of your Acid Mantle (the top layer of skin). The most common way is by using products that are too alkaline (hint: most soaps). Although these soaps help clean the skin and can feel great, it actually is changing the balance of the PH level of the skin. Disrupting the acid mantle can weaken the skin’s immune system, can cause premature aging, or can cause a host of inflammatory skin conditions such as acne.
The ideal PH for the Acid Mantle is slightly acidic between 4 and 6.5. Using a toner after cleansing helps to balance the Acid Mantle, and soothes the skin.
Aveda’s Botanicals Kinetic Skin Firming Toner
This toner is my favorite. It not only balances the PH level of the acid mantle, but it hydrates your skin as well. It is infused with sodium hyaluronate, echinacea, rosewater for hydration, and it is very soothing. It is also excellent for all skin types. By adding this one small step each day will change the health of your skin. I highly recommend starting to use a toner after each cleanse.
